Contract Security Officers-How to Select
The biggest question on the customers mind is how to find a quality contract security company at the best price. You will have to accept the fact that low price and quality are often contradictory terms.
Paying the highest price doesn’t mean you are guaranteed quality service. Look for a well established company and check references. Ask the company to furnish you with the names of at least 10 current clients that you can speak with about the quality service received. Stop by one of the company locations to see what the security officer looks like. Are they the image you want associated with your professional place of business?
Management is the key to successful security and consulting services. A good manager can motivate, monitor, and see that the operation runs smooth. “A happy officer is a productive officer.” Ask the security management team what type of experience they have in the field of crime prevention, security, and asset protection. Ask about their training and experience. Is their training accredited?
Contract Security Officers-Selection Tips
- Ask for the security officer to be in full military style uniform and equipped with, a two way radio, and the necessary equipment to function properly.
- Ask for a copy of the security company license and insurance certificates.
- Ask for a copy of the individual security officer license and a copy of the security officer’s background to show that the person who will be assigned to your facility does not have a criminal arrestor conviction record. Do you want persons with a criminal history, arrest record or terminated from law enforcement positions representing you?
- Make certain armed security officers have law enforcement training. Ask if they trained with the use of deadly and non-lethal force and evidence thereof.
- Does your security officer prepare written daily activity and complete incident reports?
- Communicate often with the security company managers to insure quality presence. Let them know of problems immediately.
- Make certain your security company has a 24 hour, on duty supervisor and radio communications officer for emergencies.
